Pearls of Wisdom ~ Azhaikindran Arangan Episode May 11th 2012

When Sukabrahmam was telling the Srimad Bhagavatham to parikshith, in the 5th skandam there is a description of all the different types of hell and what happens in them. Parikshith was starting to fear as to whether all this Narakam (hell) was true or whether this was mentioned only by elders so one will adopt the good path and not go the bad way.

A mother when she feeds the child and if that child is refusing to take it, she will simply mention that there is a fearsome man (poochandi) to whom she will turn over to. Just to make the child eat food. Likewise Parikshith asks whether the mahans have mentioned all these hell in Srimad Bhagavatham just so people will not do bad things and be good.

To this Sukabrahmam beautifully replies, 'Let us not get into the analysis of whether the hell is present or not, you just open your eyes to this world. If you just keep seeing at all the things happening in this world you will see hell and not wonder whether there is a hell or not.

Someone who is just going on his way, suddenly there is a fight between two people and one of them pierces the other with the knife and his intestines all come out. So in one of the descriptions of hell it is said you will be pierced with a trident, but you see the same in this world itself. Even as you are walking on the road, someone cuts of your hand with a knife or even your head and he is fallen which we read in newspapers. When travelling in a train, there is a bomb explosion and we see that the peoples body parts are shattered and lie everywhere.

Just as we are cooking in a pan that has boiling oil and suddenly the oil splashes on your face. People laying tar on the roads suddenly find boiling tar splashed on their faces. In a foundry as they are planning to lay the foundation suddenly the sand sucks them up and they get buried, we can keep saying thus which we read in the newspapers always. Many such incidents we read about.

Most of whatever is described in the Srimad Bhagavatham as hell, more or less is avaialble in this world. If this is present in this world, why cant we say this is present in other worlds as well. Just as there is a railway station in this world, similarly there is one in America for example. So we cannot simply say that whatever is available in this place will not be available in another place.
