Pearls of Wisdom ~ Azhaikindran Arangan Episode June 28th 2012

The bhagavan who created this universe, why he created, whats the need all were told by HIMSELF. The way this was told is called Vedam. What is the reason for this world, how this world was created and how this is being conducted which was told to Brahma is being mentioned in the Srimad Bhagavatham sloka "tenE brahma hrdAya Adi kavayE muhyanti yat surayahA". Bhagavan himself told this to brahma.

What is the intention behind this? Only if we know the reason why we are born, can we really get the purpose of it. "The purpose of creation". Why has the bhagavan given us eyes, ears, mouth, hands, legs...all this only to attain the bhagavan. The bhagavan who has taken in all the jeevatmas during pralayam and now having begun the creation is being described like this. Lets say a child who has just returned back from the school plays, then does his homework, mother feeds him and now when the child is not going to bed and keeps on playing, the mother forcefully makes the child to go to sleep. The mother is the one who compels a lot and makes the child sleep.

The same mother who made the child sleep in the night will in the morning wake up the child likewise and get him ready to go to school. Dont be lazy, get up and go to school. If we draw parallel to this, the bhagavan in the pralayam holding the jeevatmas is like the sleep. The bhagavan gives all of us rest. why rest? The greatest gift that the bhagavan has given us is sleep. We are not aware of this. Sleep is the greatest gift from bhagavan. In our mind there are thought running very fast. The mind is always thinking of something. if not then that is not a mind. More so when there is an anxiety in the mind, the thoughts come rapidly. Say there is someone who comes home daily exactly at 5 pm from the office, if one day he is late coming home the wife starts to get anxious thinking maybe the bus is late, there could have been an accident, maybe he has gone to a friends home, maybe to a market, maybe to a concert, normally he would phone like this the thoughts multiply manifold. If thoughts come like this for 24 hours in his whole lifetime a person would just go mad. As much as the thoughts multiply in our mind, so much less will be the clarity of thoughts in our mind. The thoughts will not bear fruit even. Those meditating if they think of something it will happen immediately. If after meditating for sometime and then think 'I miss my friend for quite some time, where is he, there is no phone call even?' Suddenly in 10 minutes time the phone will ring and the friend will call. In a mind where there were no thoughts and suddenly a thought arises in that mind it will happen immediately. In a mind where there are numerous thoughts, a single thought bears no fruit. That is the secret between the thought of a mahan as compared with the thought of an ordinary individual. The mahan has no thoughts and when a thought occurs suddenly it happens! When thoughts are rapidly coming in a rush and changing then a single thought has no effect. Neither can one control the rush of thoughts. Can we sit for sometime, sleep, stand up and walk or do anything to control the rush of thoughts? Impossible. More difficult is the control to get a specific type of thought than the fact that no thoughts should come. By and large thoughts that are opposed to us keep surfacing always. Desire surfaces, anger often surfaces, not to mention jealousy, fear. Then we think for ourselves why thoughts arise like this. Why doesn't the mind think of good things always is the worry we have always. So what's the gift of the sleep at night, at least for sometime the mind gets a rest and is kept quiet. Thank goodness! When he is about to get up in the morning, the mind is fresh and is useful to take on the new thoughts for the day. Similarly when death occurs the mind is free from thoughts.
Small is the rest for the mind one begets from sleep.
More is the rest for the mind one begets from  death.
Great is the rest when the bhagavan keeps it during the pralayam.
One is being put time and again into the cycle of birth, in the hope that atleast one of these lives he may attain mukthi. As the jeevan becomes tired and tired with so many births without attaining mukthi, the bhagavan has kept the pralayam as the last resort to get him back. One comes out of the cycle - jananam/maranam, pirappu/erappu only after attaining the mukthi. Mukthi is nothing but the lotus feet of the bhagavan. Why cannot we get the mukthi? Its because we did not desire for that.

In one place they are performing annadAnam. They have stopped the next 10 people coming in to keep them waiting until they open the door. door now opens and the 10 are let in. There is another set of 10 people next. But amongst this, the only person who is very hungry for food and is urgently seeking it will rush to get to the front of the queue. There are some people opposite the place of annadAnam and they are playing cards, another is talking to someone in his verandah they are also going to get the food once they join the queue but the one who is jostling to get in front of the queue will be the one who gets the food quickly. On the other hand the people who are playing, gossipping will surely get the food but not in the near future likewise all the jeevans in this world will have to ultimately attain the lotus feet one day until then this "Srishti, Stithi and Samharam" (GOD - Generation, Operation, Destruction, my words!) will continue and will not stop.

Only when the jeevans truly desire then they will attain mukthi. That is the reason why time and again sadhus are sent from the bhagavan to keep telling the greatness of the bhagavan as well as the greatness of obtaining mukthi and thereby one can attain the lotus feet of the bhagavan. Not  told just in the vedas but the bhagavan himself taking all the 9 avatars told this repeatedly. Bhagavan was not content with these avatars. Why. A hunter in the forest as he is walking along sees a deer. There is a thorn sticking inside the leg of the deer. Somehow on this day the hunter filled with sympathy sees that the deer is lying down with the thorn stuck in the leg with the blood flowing down. Thus the hunter himself goes close to the deer to extract the thorn out but on seeing him the deer gets afraid and runs away. Why because the deer belongs to a different species than the human kind. The deer is always afraid of the human species. So what happens now. The deer already having a thorn with blood flowing is lying down, now the hunter is coming closer as well. So now it gets up and with a faster speed runs from the hunter. So the hunter cannot just think in his mind alone to help the deer, rather he has to become a deer himself !!!
So if the bhagavan came live before us with 4 arms, sankha, chakra in front of us we will only fold our hands in supplication and move backwards several steps and we wont have the feeling to be close to him and talk to him in a friendly way. HE is god whereas we are human. HE is paramatma, we are jeevatma. HE is sarvajNan, we are alpajNan. HE is sarvasakthan, we are asakthan. In this material world itself, one is afraid to speak with a koteeswaran or with one who is having a great status and are afraid to be close to them, though they are simply humans. When the paramatma comes to the world amongst us and even though the bhagavan is full of karuna towards us, we wont be able to be close to him. That is our behaviour. Therefore the bhagavan thought that if I need to be beneficial to the humans, I need to take the form of a human myself. That is the Rama avataram. There is a avatar for saving the vedas, keep the earth in its orbit, kill hiranyakashipu, come to the yagnashala and take the dAnam, dig out the nectar out of all this as a ordinary human being born out of a mother's womb and live the full life is the Rama avataram. The Rama avatar become so tremendously beautiful, so beautiful that the bhagavan himself enjoyed it. In this avatar we see such a exposition of the bhagavan in Sathyam , dharmam and Gunam and its filled with it. Its an avataram that was enjoyed by all. If one comes near a mahatma and realises that this mahatma will know all the life we led, wrongs we did etc then one will not go near the mahatma. Because everyone know his or her doshams themselves as well as their wrongs. If we go in front of the mahan, as our mind is filled with so many thoughts which the mahan will know one may hesitate. We have done so many secret wrong doings which the mahan may know and thinking so many may not go near. In the Rama avatar, in case rama approached the deivam, that deivam must be afraid of Sri Rama. Can a man stand in dharma like this? Can a man stand in truth like this? Can a man have this kind of gunam, thinking so the Gods will stand astounded, such is the rama avataram. But even today in many debates we hear that Rama hid and killed vaali and in this rama sathyam, gunam and dharmam all were shattered in this one question - why did rama hide himself and kill vaali? Not only in todays debates, but rama himself in his avatar feels for this action. When rama returns back after chasing the deer and finding that sita has been abducted, he approaches lakshmana and asks, why, in the sky and heavens there are the thousand devas, surya, stars, vaayu and chandra and in spite of them seeing I am here crying my heart out to know who has taken away sita - has any animal eaten her and taken her away, any demon has killed her? yet no Gods have responded to my cries.
Why? Because as I wanted to lead a simple life, being in dharmam, satyam the Gods themselves are ignoring me. The whole world is only fascinated by pomp and luxury, one who is simple is even being ignored by the Gods - this is told in the rama avatar by Rama to lakshma in the ramayana itself. Rama upheld the promise dasaratha gave to kaikeyi, went to the forest upholding dharma and standing in truth all the time. But after the rama avatar and in this present time, we find that people are not talking of the rama avatar nor listening to it but listening only to the debate (patti mandram)- Rama killing vaali is right or wrong etc.? In a jeevan if there are 10 good things and 1 bad thing about it, the bad will be made prominent. We would have visited a home and 100 times we were welcomed with great hospitality and we would have been happy with it and suddenly just 1 day we were ignored for some reason then that 1 day will be prominent in our minds and we would disregard the rest of the 100 times we were treated well. This is the behaviour of a mind or jeevan.
